• Sustainability

Our family instilled in us a great love for the outdoors, a love Claire and I nurtured in college as outdoor guides. We took Mom to Norway a couple years ago to backpack and explore our heritage. This trip was magical in so many ways, and it solidified our commitment to sustainability. We strive to preserve the beauty that we so intimately know is out there. Because of this, we engage in business practices and use materials that minimize our impact on the environment. Read more about our ingredients and practices every Wednesday on our Science of Candle Making blog!

  • Affordability

In our young childhood years, our dad was still in graduate school. This forced us to learn how to live frugally, but it also taught us the value of that way of life. Giving gifts is one of our family's primary love languages, and finding affordable gifts was a fun challenge. This is how our Mom discovered candle-making in the first place. While as a small business we cannot offer the same prices as wholesale candles, we endeavor to maintain as affordable a price as we can. We are so committed to this pillar that below, you will find a breakdown of the price of one of our candles.

  • Authenticity

We are not interested in hiding anything. Your happiness and health are foremost in our mission. This is why we chose our ingredients carefully and after much research, and we share all of that research with you. Below you will find a breakdown of each ingredient we use in our candles, and a few things we think about when picking out containers.

Sustainability backed by Research

...The Science of Candle Making Blog will be up soon...

Authenticity in our Ingredients

Thrifted Containers

Most of our candles are poured in second-hand containers, which we think is a step beyond sourcing sustainable ingredients. Thrifted containers not only bring an element of uniqueness and beauty to our candles, they are also a way to reuse our resources. Not only are these containers hand-picked, we also examine each container, ensuring it is thick enough and has no unknown metal or paint that could leak into the wax.

Soy Wax

🌿Renewable: Soy wax is made from soybean oil, derived from soybeans, which are a renewable and natural resource. Unlike paraffin wax, which is a byproduct of petroleum, soy wax relies on agriculture rather than fossil fuels. Source: https://www.usda.gov/

🌎Biodegradable: Soy wax breaks down naturally in the environment, reducing its impact on waste systems compared to paraffin wax. Source: https://candles.org/

🐾Low Carbon Footprint: The production and use of soy wax candles generate fewer carbon emissions than paraffin wax candles, which require refining crude oil. Source: https://www.greenamerica.org/

💦Clean Burning: Soy candles produce less soot when burned, contributing to cleaner air quality indoors and reducing black residue buildup on walls or surfaces. Source: https://link.springer.com/article/10.1007/s11746-002-0562-y

🌱Supports our Farmers: Soy wax supports the agricultural industry, particularly soybean farmers, promoting sustainable farming practices. Source: https://www.usda.gov/

🔥Lengthy Burn Time: Soy candles often burn longer than paraffin candles due to their lower melting point, which means fewer candles need to be produced over time. Source: https://www.goodhousekeeping.com/

Beeswax

Beeswax is a natural, renewable byproduct of honey production that can be harvested responsibly without harming bees. It is biodegradable, clean-burning, and requires minimal processing, making it an eco-friendly alternative to synthetic waxes. Beeswax candles also improve air quality by emitting minimal soot and neutralizing pollutants. Additionally, supporting beeswax promotes sustainable beekeeping, which is vital for healthy bee populations and biodiversity.

Cotton Wicks

Cotton wicks are made from a natural, renewable resource that is biodegradable and clean-burning. We use braided cotton wicks, with no metal interior (no zinc). Cotton wicks support cleaner air quality by minimizing soot and toxins and pair best with eco-friendly waxes like soy or beeswax.

Wooden Wicks

Our wood wicks are made from natural, renewable wood sources, sourced from responsibly managed forests or using reclaimed wood. They are crafted from FSC-certified (Forest Stewardship Council) materials, ensuring that the wood comes from forests managed in an environmentally and socially responsible way. Unlike synthetic wicks, wood wicks are biodegradable and clean-burning, producing minimal soot and toxins. Additionally, they require less energy and processing to manufacture compared to zync or cotton wicks. Their unique crackling sound and even burn make them a sustainable and appealing choice for eco-conscious candle lovers.

The Vibes

Our brand keeps in mind the very beginnings of candles. They used to represent comfort and safety because they were the primary source of light before the lightbulb was invented. In religious ceremonies, they were symbols of hope in the darkness. For us, candles today should echo their origins. A home with candles should be a safe home, a clean home, and a joyful home.
